6. Nuo Klaipėdos iki Ventės kuršių pėdomis | Following Curonian footsteps from Klaipėda to Ventė

LT.
EN. This time escape was really necessary because last time we did something in winter was more than one year ago. And the occasion for this was 11th of March, our Independence Regaining day. Such days have to be remembered, especially when one understands that we can travel because we are free.
Sure, along the main goal more simpler ones follow – to get into your warm sleeping bag after a long cold day, to laugh with your friends in the train, and to sleep for 9-10 hours every night because you get up and go to sleep with the sun. After only three days of this I came back home being so calm. Felt like someone has drilled the hole in my head and released all the steam. Yes, I needed it, and it came just at the right time. And of course… where else one can get all of this if not at Lithuanian sea side where Curonian lagoon and Baltic winds wash out your head.
And so men left for the journey: Tadas took his summer “slim-fit” (new word was developed for sleeping bag producers) sleeping bag and was cold for both two nights, Donatas couldn’t find his elegant gloves on the train (okay, I couldn’t find mine at the end of the trip in Klaipėda either) and went out with shoes that always cause him blisters, Giedrius has booked tickets in the old train-car instead of new cupe (not on purpose), Tautvydas took his new primus without a pot (strangely he got the pot as a present for his birthday from us:), Remigijus left his holiday, warm bed with his wife and a kid in order to stay in cold for three days. Funny are those friends of mine, aren’t they?:) Sure, I am funny myself but maybe this is why it is interesting with us – no matter what we laugh and go forward instead of crying and sitting at home.
This time, like usually, we travelled ~50 kilometers but one thing was strange: I was even not starting to get tired and 20 kilometers were already covered. What??? Did I grow up, became stronger or younger? I don’t think so – it was easy because with good company time and kilometers simply fly. Hope others felt the same… :)
Lagoon side, like always, was beauiful. King Vilhelm‘s channel, Dreverna with its beautiful harbor and new observation tower (architects and constructors watch out – Tutas said there were better ways to build it), Lithuanian wind surfing and power-kiting paradise Svencelė with all the new infrastructure, recuperating town of Kintai, village of Šturmai with restaurant „Šturmų restoranas“ (it doesn‘t work in winter but worked this time, I believe for us – mhm, what a food, best fresh local fish!:), and totally renewed museums, buildings and surroundings of Ventė horn. Wow! And I haven’t been here only for 3 years…
Weather was also favorable: humidity and north-western wind on Friday were changed by sun, blue skies and a bit of cold on Saturday. Sunday morning was like in fairy tales – we got up with the sun, forests and meadows were covered with silver frost, swamps sounded like bells full of geese and cranes who just came back and were looking for partners. Few kilometers before Ventė horn one always walks along the Lagoon with great views of Curonian dunes on the other side. Ah…
On late Sunday morning Živilė (Remigijus wife) and her father took us from Ventė and drove back to Klaipėda where we managed to visit the old town and a few bars. Journey back to Vilnius was short (come on, we were riding the fast train:), and we are already waiting for another journey. Yes yes, Curonian Spit overnight is just there. Check out the photos and till very soon,
Saulius
